What We Believe

As a congregation in the Presbyterian Church USA, we believe…

  • Each week in worship, we proclaim what we believe with the Apostle’s Creed: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

  • Because of our Presbyterian heritage, we trace many of our theological understandings to John Calvin, a reformer from the 16th century. His theological teachings held the importance of: God’s sovereignty, the authority of Scripture over our lives, justification by grace through faith, and the priesthood of all believers.

  • In the Book of Order, the document that guides how congregations and the larger church structure function, the foundational section says, “That ‘God alone is Lord of the conscience, and hath left it free from the doctrines and commandments of men which are in anything contrary to his Word, or beside it, in matters of faith or worship.’” (F-3.0101) This means, our congregation is open to differences of opinion and understanding as we come together to worship our merciful and loving God as a community of Christian faith.

  • Our congregation, as is typical for PC(USA) congregations, ordains any member to the leadership roles within our church: Ruling Elder and Deacon.

If you have any specific questions about our believes, you’re invited to reach out to the church office or come to worship to see the work of God’s hands and feet in this congregation.
